David Watkins was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Mackenzie High School and attended Wayne State University, where he studied philosophy.He is the founder of DLW Publishing Company.An avid reader, David enjoys many different genres of books, from philosophical works to science fiction to books on the history of baseball. It is his wish that children of all ages discover a love for reading.

One of David's mother's favorite phrases was, "Without the love of books, the richest man is poor." Written on the classroom wall in the school his mother attended in the 1930's, the phrase resonated with David and has fueled his passion for both reading and writing.He does children's workshops on drawing and lettering. He has spoken at churches, schools and community events.
